It has been a long, long time since I’ve been wowed by a browser. Most attempts at new browsers have been ho-hum little tweaks here and there, but none could take me away from Firefox - until now. Flock 1.0 is nothing less than FANTASTIC!

I first was introduced to Flock about a year and a half ago. Yes, during the alpha stage when they attended smaller blogging shows such as Northern Voice in Vancouver, Canada. I sat through the presentation and asked a number of times “Why would I switch from my present browser (Firefox) to this?” I was shown the integration with Flickr and a built in blogging client. Oh, that’s nice. But really, can it do extensions? We’re working on it, was the answer. Thanks. Off to the next presentation I went.
The first item on my list which drew me to try Flock again THIS TIME was exactly that point. It does extensions. No, not just Flock extensions… but most Firefox extensions as well. That’s HUGE since that really was the ONLY reason which kept me with Firefox in the first place.
But there’s more.
Not only will Flock do what it always did with Flickr photos and blogging, it now FULLY INTEGRATES with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, WordPress, Blogger, Xanga, del.icio.us and a whole slew of other online entities you now need to baby-sit for your online life. In other words, Flock is the first browser to fully understand and achieve integration with this whole new Web 2.0 / Social Media life we now have at the end of 2007. Somehow this unto itself makes Firefox more than a little behind the times. Really, why should I hunt and peck around to find the right extensionn to do all these new things when Flock 1.0 already has them build in nicely in the sidebar? Just too cool.
If you are a Firefox user, or still with a horse and buggy Internet Explorer, it is time to fully harness the power of the Internet by checking out Flock.
Trust me, you’ll be impressed.

I’ve liked the concept from Flock since first seeing it, but they have been panned by a lot of folks. Maybe 1.x will get more people to give them a second look.
Seems logical that it would be more efficient to bake in common features than to use them as plugins, but it’s hogging a little more memory in Vista for me than Firefox with similar plugins.

You have to be careful with Firefox extensions. Even though some Firefox extensions will work flawlessly with Flock, there are many extensions that are not yet available. I would say, this is a weak point in Flock.
Firefox has a mountain of extensions which are not yet available to Flock. I’ve written to Flock about this subject, buy their main concern was to get Flock 1.0 out and then concentrate on other goodies to their great product.
Just my two cents on the subject.

I recently switched from Firefox to Flock, again. Permit me to explain: I had an alpha version on my Mac in 1995, but stopped using it because it lacked some of the more important features of Firefox. But now, I’ve started _is_ somewhat over the top and feature-rich — those of you who like spartan browser pages, e.g. Google search page — probably will want to steer clear of this. But I don’t mind, and the integrated features work with social networking sites, taking them to new levels.
